In 1882 hosier Emile Camuset founded the Maison Camuset in Romilly, close to Troyes, the capital of hosiery in France. The company combined their passion for sport alongside their expertise, ingenuity and knowledge of the sporting world to create innovative products designed especially for competitors. The most French of sports logos, Le Coq Sportif was worn on the chests of leading sportsmen and women, witnessing some of the greatest sporting moments in history including the Tour de France in 1951 and for the following forty years, the Rome Olympics in 1960, the Argentinian and Italian victories at the World Cup in the 80s, and when Yannick Noah won the French Open in 1983. The brand made a return to Romilly in 2010, with the creation of the textile development centre. In 2012, Le Coq Sportif will once again become the official sponsor of the Tour de France, marking the French brand’s 130th anniversary.
