‘The Country of Laws and Wonders’ is the literal meaning of ‘Faguo’, the Chinese name of this new French sneaker brand. Faguo is also the word for ‘France’ in Chinese and the title that has been given to the project of Nicolas and Frederic; two students from ISTEC who travelled to study in China, a magic kingdom where the sneaker is worn by everyone, young or old, rich or poor. Faguo trainers saw a flying start in 2009 thanks to an optimized use of social networks - no doubt that Facebook users and readers of fashion blogs have already come across the name Faguo during their online browsing! It’s thanks to this new generation marketing that Faguo sold all of its stock (5000 pairs) in its first three weeks of opening. This stock was intended to last for six months. Their marketing concept was based on another popular idea: the protection of the environment. Faguo planted a tree for every pair bought, in order to offset its carbon emissions. When Faguo sneakers make their long trip from China, where production and working conditions are controlled by one of its partners, it’s packed with as little excess packaging as necessary.
